Introducing Precision Therapeutic Approaches for the treatment of chronic diseases
content
Precision Medicine is considered by all to be the necessary future of treatment for all diseases. What is it? Fundamentally, this can be divided into two subsections, namely personalized medicine and precision therapeutics. With personalized medicine, we aim to understand the genetic, immunological and/or metabolic individuality of patients in order to match individual patients with the most appropriate active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) for treatment of their particular disease(s). With precision therapeutics, we aim to take control of the delivery of APIs to disease target tissue and/or select APIs for use that have extreme target specificity. Nowadays, most people know about personalized medicine. So, what we will aim to do in this lecture is try to understand what is meant in more detail by precision therapeutics, and how this might translate into precision therapeutic approaches for the treatment of chronic diseases tomorrow.
