Femtosecond stimulated Raman spectroscopy (FSRS) is a powerful vibrational technique for studying chemical and biochemical reaction dynamics because it uniquely provides vibrational structural information with excellent <50 fs temporal and <20 cm−1 spectral resolution. FSRS has additional advantages including increased scattering rates, an improved signal-to-noise (S/N) ratio, short data acquisition times, and insensitivity to background fluorescence. In addition, tunable light sources in the whole visible range allow us to extend FSRS into resonance Raman domain. Due to its unique advantages, FSRS has widely used to investigate reaction dynamics during photochemical and photophysical processes. In this seminar, the basic principle of FSRS and its application to the vibrational relaxation dynamics of -carotene in the excited state will be presented.
